An inspirational aviation story of one man's dream and how a dedicated team of HARS volunteers rescued a PBY Catalina from Portugal, lovingly restored it to flying condition and successfully flew it back to Australia.
The 52 min AV sequence has some great highlights which include:- Significant footage of the aircraft grounded in Portugal, where it had previously been used as a firefighting aircraft
- Great storytelling snippets about the stages of restoration, which involved periodic visits by HARS volunteers to bring teh airframe to airworthy status
- The dialogue with Civil Aviation Authorities, as HARS volunteer crew fly the aircraft in stages from Portugal to Albion Park, Australia
- Some rare AV shots of that trip home from Portugal to Australia.
This is a great visual record of a significant achievement in Australian Historic aviation and is a tribute to the dedication and efforts of the HARS volunteers and supporters that enabled that enabled a flying Catalina to reappear in Australian skies.
